§ 7. Election of mayor and councilmen.

  • That an election for mayor and six (6) councilmen of said city shall be held in said city at such voting precincts as may be designated by the mayor and city council thereof, on the first Tuesday after the first Monday of June, 1953, and every four (4) years thereafter (as provided by section 3374-62 of the Annotated Code of Mississippi of 1942, as amended, and other acts applicable thereto). Each of the six (6) wards into which the said city is, or shall be hereafter divided, shall be entitled to one representative in said city council, which representative shall be a resident of the ward he is elected to represent; provided, however, the term of office of said duly elected and qualified members of the city council shall not be vacated by removal from one ward to another ward within the city but shall continue to the end of the term for which he was elected. Said mayor and councilmen shall be elected by general ticket, and by the qualified electors of said city, as provided in the amendment of section 10 of this Charter.
